Trainees exhibit and sell flower arrangements, candles and soap products

A three-day exhibition-sale was held starting December 16, 2009, displaying the work of the 24 trainees taking part in the vocational training course on “Flower Arrangement, Soap and Candle Making,” organized by JMP–L in partnership with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).image008

The event was attended by a number of community stakeholders, representatives of social centers, local NGOs, Bourj Hammoud Municipal Council members, JMP–L Beirut Advisory Committee members, and the media.

Besides the guests, visitors also included Community Development Core Committee members, people who live or work in the streets around the JMP–L offices, and community members from the neighborhood.

All the attendees highly appreciated the initiative.image010

Nelly Vekilian, a member of the Bourj Hammoud Municipal Council, thanked JMP–L’s Community Development team for organizing this training course, and for giving the opportunity to the participants to get out of their routines and express themselves through art and handcrafts. She praised the cooperative relationship created among the participants.

The exhibition also raised some funds for this development project, especially for women’s empowerment initiatives.image012

This event was also an opportunity to develop volunteerism, since the trainees were present at the exhibition the whole time, guiding and giving explanations to the visitors. They also volunteered in the preparation of the reception for the three days of the exhibition by preparing homemade cookies for the guests and visitors.
